2022 Summertime Garden Preperation

If you can believe it, it’s almost time to start preparing our gardens and home exteriors for that much anticipated, and long-awaited – spring! One of our favourite seasons in the UK, springtime brings warmer days and less than freezing nights, while still allowing for crisp mornings and the odd dusting of snow.

But, we also love spring because it’s the warm-up performance for the main act: summer, and as far as enthusiastic gardeners go, the British gardener is one of the world’s most formidable. Evidenced by the world-renowned Chelsea flower and garden show, our love for gardening and beautifying our outdoor spaces isn’t just a well-established hobby in Britain, it also goes some way to adding a lot of value to our homes too.

Here’s what you need to start thinking about, to make sure your garden is ready for the summer.

Sort out your boundaries, edges and hedges.

After a long winter of ‘I’ll do it next weekend, it is time to start giving the boundaries, edges, and hedges of your garden some much-needed love. Think of it as preparing your canvas, because when you have sharp edges and lines, with all of the dead material removed and pruned, you’re making space for your summertime masterpiece.
Start thinking about lawns, plants, and flowers.

This is especially true if you’ve been considering a whole new garden for the upcoming season, it’s really important to give this some real thought because if you’re redoing your garden then you’ll have to start removing leftover roots, bulbs and seeds from last season. Trust us, the sooner you get this done – the better. Start a list of all the flowers, shrubs, plants and grasses you have in mind, and see which of these you can preorder if you know you’re after some really popular seeds or shrubs that can take a little longer to receive in peak times. You may want to preorder your Grass seed online for that matter.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

This applies inside your home as much as it does outside, and if you have a shed, greenhouse, potting or planting baskets, tools and other gardening implements, it’s time to start getting them out of your shed or storage and getting them cleaned up. Before you know it spring will be here and you don’t want to be spending time scrubbing, soaking and heaven-knows-what-else-ing, trying to clean off last seasons dirt.

Plan your garden.

It really doesn’t matter if you have a garden the size of Kew or a small patch, with some smart thinking and creative application of your ideas, you can create a garden and outdoor space that is the envy of all – especially, your estate agent. It’s no surprise to those in the know, that the top three considerations for homebuyers in the United Kingdom are bathrooms, kitchens, and gardens so if it’s worth doing, then it’s worth doing well. You can find some inspiration from last years top gardens, here.

Have a great time doing it and even though it may seem early, here’s to your best summer yet!
