5 Garden Design Trends for 2023

If you are fortunate enough to have a garden, you want to be able to enjoy it in all seasons. In the past, gardens were associated with warm weather, but we are now using our gardens all year round. Thankfully, many of the top trends for 2023 center around ways to make our gardens more useable whatever the season.

Fire Pits

There’s nothing cozier than gathering around a fire and the popularity of fire pits that has been growing over recent years will continue into 2023. Brick-built options are popular but for a more traditional look, why not opt for a chiminea instead? Whatever your style, there’s a fire pit for you. Check out Pinterest or Instagram for ideas.

Summerhouses and Outdoor Offices

With expenses rising, many people are choosing to utilize their garden space rather than move house or extend. Summerhouses and outdoor offices are a great way of adding space, especially if you are needing a space away from the hustle and bustle of the main house. Speaking to an expert about the options available can help you find something suitable in your budget and decide on how large a space you want to create.

Outdoor Dining Spaces

Al Fresco dining is always popular in the summer months and in 2023 there will be a rise in people adding a designated dining space to their garden. Shelters and pagodas which offer protection from showers will be a key trend, meaning the outdoor eating experience can be enjoyed all year round. The addition of heaters (or a fire pit or chiminea) mean you will be toasty warm whatever the weather.

As well as traditional barbeques, other gadgets such as a portable wood fired pizza oven can be a great investment for your outdoor dining area. Popular options such as the Ooni Karu enable you to have steaming hot pizza fresh from the oven, all in your own garden. Treat your outdoor dining space as an extra room and add décor and plants to bring your own unique style to the area.

Classic Tiling

Patterned tiles are a big trend for 2023 inspired by popular garden designers. Bold colors and terracotta will be top of people’s lists as they look to bring a taste of the Mediterranean into their gardens. Where you decide to put your tiles is up to you. Use as flooring, wall tiles or on tabletops – you choose!

Cutting Garden

With the cost of shop-bought flowers rising, there will be an increase in people choosing to grow their own flowers in 2023. Blousy favorites such as tulips, alliums and dahlias top the list as well as delicate sweet peas. Whether you choose to adapt one bed or go wild and dedicate your whole outdoor space to growing flowers perfect for cutting, you won’t regret the burst of color it will bring to your garden.

However you choose to update your garden in 2023, you will be adding your own stamp to it – although these trends will be popular, don’t be afraid to be unique!
