Estate agents to be regulated by new authority – licence will needed in order to take up the profession of Estate Agency in Malta.
The White paper issue only recently in January 2016 shows that estate agents will now require a licence in order to carry out their business with new comers to the industry needing to take courses in order to apply for the licence.
Parliamentary Secretary José Herrera is quoted as saying “not every Tom, Dick and Harry, can become a an estate agent”.
Malta’s Property Code Regulations FINAL DOC (2).pdf can be viewed here for more information. The code needs to be taken seriously from now on as there is punishment of fines and even imprisonment should estate agencies not adhere to the new rules.
In an act to clean up the industry or at least to put in to practise more regulations to protect home owners, buyers, renters etc new requirements also include the need to provide full explanation of fees before engaging with client and terms of business.
