ANDALUCÍA, CHOICE FOR 3.51 MILLION TOURISTS IN JANUARY 2015/RENTAL PRICES SURGE.

British holidaymakers on average account for more than one in five tourists visiting Spain. In January 2016, tourist figures shot up by 11 per cent. Blessed with mild winters and over 300 days of sunshine per year, the region of Andalucía benefits from an intricate infrastructure with excellent national and international transport links and a number of airlines that offer very cheap year round flights. Once again, an unusually warm winter in Andalucía and affordable flights made the culturally rich and picturesque region a top choice for thousands of tourists seeking some winter sun.

According to recent government statistics, a total of 3.51 million tourists visited Andalucía in January. There was also a 16.2 per cent rise in the number of visitors from the UK to Spain, with a total of 706,000 visitors. The British accounted for 20.14 per cent of the total number of tourists, the French followed with 13.5 per cent and the Germans closely behind with 13.1 per cent. Scandinavian tourists accounted for 11.2 per cent of all the visitors and Italy 6.3 per cent.

Notable increases were tourists from Switzerland and Ireland up 37 per cent and 23 per cent respectively. 239,000 additional tourists hailed from other parts of the world.

While the region has enjoyed a thriving tourism industry for many years, the recent influx in holidaymakers has assisted in driving up rental prices along the Costa del Sol. Rent levels in Malaga have particularly experienced an increase, as tourists increasingly flock to the cities many cultural hotspots and newly developed areas and offerings. Property rents in 2015 rose by an incredible 13.5 per cent according to a recent report, a rise that is four times higher than the national Spanish average.

After Marbella, Malaga is now the second most expensive city in Andalucía, with an average rent per square metre of 7.8 euros compared to 9.6 euros in the celebrity hotspot of Marbella and Puerto Banus.
