6 Things to Do When You Get to Your New Home
You have everything packed and loaded in the van and you are ready to move into your new home. The money to pay the movers and the copies of your floor plan and inventory list are with you. You have a couple of friends to help you unload the vehicle and arrange the furniture. The locks and the security code are changed and it seems like you can finally relocate into your home. But what else you need to tackle before you settle into. Here are the six things you need to do when you arrive at you new place.

Remove the pests
There is nothing more unsettling than being welcomed into your new home by a cockroach infestation or other creepy critters. You can have an extermination company come to your place or you can pest-proof the area yourself. If you have access to the place, do this a day or two before the moving day. In this way you won’t need to worry about your kids and pets being exposed to harsh chemicals.

Deep-clean
Cleaning can be pretty easy when your home is empty. There are no curtains to take down or rugs and furniture to move. You can hire a London cleaning company to help you get job done more quickly. Wipe the countertops and the windows, wash the floors and sanitize the refrigerator and freezer. Take care of other appliances like the washing machine and the dishwasher. If you can’t do the cleaning prior to the move, calling professional cleaners will be quite useful.

Inspect your belongings
When you have a huge pile of boxes and bags, it’s hard to keep track of all of your belongings. That is why you need to have both your inventory list and your floor plan at hand. In this way you can easily spot if something is missing. Walk room by room to ensure that everything has arrived safe and undamaged.

Contact the utility company
If you are moving to a different city or state, you may need to find new utility company. Ideally, you should schedule service before moving in. Have the heating, ventilation and electric systems inspected.

Prep your essentials
You most probably won’t be able to unpack everything at once. Start with the essentials like sheets, snacks, towels, toiletries, trash bags and plates. Don’t forget to put charges for personal electronics in your “First Open” box. Include basic cleaning supplies like rags and a small broom. In this way you will need to unpack only the most important stuff and you will not be forced to put things randomly into the cupboards.

Unpacking might take a while. It will be less overwhelming if you break the job into smaller tasks in time. As mentioned early, begin with the items you will need first. The kitchen and the bedroom are your priority. Leave the storage space, basement and garage for last.
