Unfair Estate Agent Stereotypes… Still.
We were chatting to a gentleman, over coffee at a networking event, who had a really bad opinion of Estate Agents.
It was a scathing attack on not only a specific Estate Agency, but the whole industry!
As I listened to him throwing stereotype after stereotype out at whoever was in earshot, I had to step in and try to understand his point of view, as all the estate agents I’ve come in contact with over the years, were and are the exact opposite of what he was talking about.
As always, there was a bigger picture and it turned out he was just having a bad day, trying to sell a bad investment auction property on using an agent that specialised in high end luxury countryside properties, not poor condition mid terraces in student let areas.
People still jump to conclusions. People still believe they are ‘getting ripped off’ and that stereotype of Jargon spitting, clunky chain wearing, commission chaser is still a fair assumption to make.
We speak to people day in day out who ask us who the best estate agent is. Our answer is simple:
“The best agent, is the right agent for you”. There isn’t such a thing as ‘The best agent’ and the sooner people understand this, maybe those Estate Agent Stereotypes will start to fall away.
Selling property, for the wider audience, isn’t something we do every day. You need to choose an agent you can trust, someone who you can have a conversation with, someone who you can call up and ask for help. An Estate Agency Hero.
These days, most Agents really are Heroes. Selling dream homes to deserving families, shifting first time buyers flats and turning them in to rungs on that ever changing property ladder. Negotiating crazy offers and really doing their homework on the right properties for the right people.
A great Agent is a great Agent, shark skin suit aside…
