Empty property owner in Warwick is fined

As recent news from Shelter about the need for more homes across the UK and social housing, we see a home owner fined for leaving a property of theirs to fall in to disrepair.

A David Brown of Northumberland was convicted of failing to comply following a notice served on him by Warwick District Council on his property on Avon Street which was said to have been left empty for 14 years and most importantly was in a condition of disrepair.

Complaints from neighbours and a visit by the environmental health officers led the council to serve abatement notices – Mr Brown failed to comply despite several reminders.

Mr Brown was prosecuted at Warwickshire Magistrates Court for the contravention of the abatement notice and failure to make the necessary repairs requested to the property and fined a total of £660.
