4 Common House Problems and How to Solve Them

When selling a house for a client, there are some common household problems which could put potential buyers off at viewings. However, many of these problems are easily fixable when the right steps are taken as soon as possible. This article will cover the most common of these and what you can do to help your sellers solve their household issues.

  1. Drainage

Blocked drains can cause an unattractive smell to surround both the exterior and interior of the house, as well as disrupting your household activities. These can be caused by clogging by food and other substances if this is an interior drain. This can easily be fixed by calling a plumber or by doing it yourself through detaching the drain line from the sink and using a hook to pull the blockage out.

However, if this is an exterior drain, it could be caused by damaged pipes or roots which can be harder to discern. In these cases, you should advise a CCTV Drainage survey which can help you to determine the cause of the problem through photos, video footage and plans of the blockage.

  1. Damp

Many homes are subject to damp, especially if they are too cold in your home or if you do not have enough ventilation in areas come into contact with water, such as your bathroom. To stop the spread of mould in your home, you should invest in a mould control product, which are normally foams that help to reduce the impact.

If this does not resolve the problem, then you should consider hiring professional cleaners who can remove the mould. To end the possibility of damp occurring again, you should attempt to install better ventilation methods in your home.

  1. Insect Infestations

Insect infestations such as ants can be incredibly off-putting to people viewing the house, irritating for the people living in the house, and difficult to get rid of. You should control the ant population in your home by investing in ant killer, sprays and boxes, or environmentally friendly alternatives which can help to reduce the ant population before it becomes a larger problem. If this is still not effective, then you will have to call out a pest service to get rid of the problem for you.

  1. Leaks

Leaks can be caused in the roof of the house by damaged roof tiles and shingles. To get rid of the leaks DIY, the owners of the house should check for roof damage in the area in which the leak is coming through. Then, you should repair any damaged shingles or tiles, and use a roof sealant to finish the job and ensure that the leak does not continue through any gaps or cracks in the structure of your roof.

While household problems can be a huge issue for those looking to sell their property, most common household problems have simple solutions that can help to resolve the issue in a matter of weeks. This will enable any house to be sold quickly and efficiently, regardless of any problems.
