NHBC, the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, has named the winners of the first round of its 2019 Health and Safety Awards for site managers who exceed health and safety standards.

This year, 52 site managers across the UK have been awarded Commended status and will go on to compete for the national awards in July. Site managers are pivotal to the success of a site and for ten years NHBC has been recognising and rewarding those who go above expectations. Site managers who demonstrate commitment to improve health and safety standards on their sites are ultimately pushing up safety standards across the industry.

Good health and safety practices are vital in construction and significant progress has been made by house builders placing more emphasis on improving standards. The NHBC Awards celebrate those site managers that demonstrate is best practice in health and safety, prioritising the wellbeing of their teams and the public.

Stephen Ashworth, NHBC Health and Safety Services Manager, said: “Now in its 10th year, this is the ultimate competition for house builders with exceptional health and safety standards. It’s been a fantastic year with a record number of entries, demonstrating house builders are committed to driving up safety standards, ensuring their colleagues are working in a safe environment.

“All of the competing sites were visited by NHBC Health and Safety advisors and scored to stringent standards. Winners demonstrated good health and safety practice is inextricably linked to good organisation, good quality and good customer service. To win an award at this level clearly shows commitment. We wish them the very best of luck in the next stage of
the competition.”

The Commended Winners will compete for the Highly Commended and National titles, to be announced at a Gala Awards evening in Birmingham on 5 July 2019, hosted by comedian Hugh Dennis.
