Want To Make Your Neighbors Jealous? How To Build The Dream Backyard

Grand designs

Many of us dream of having a fantastic backyard. For some, it might be a place to relax and enjoy quality family time, others might want to cook and entertain, while the green thumbs of us look to nurture a variety of plants to create a backyard paradise.

Whatever you want your backyard to be, knowing how to get to your end goal can at first seem overwhelming. If you’re having trouble getting your backyard looking how you want, follow these steps to get on track.

What do you want?

As we mentioned, everyone wants something different out of their backyard. Knowing what you want is key to realising your backyards full potential. Think about how you want to primarily use the space. This decision will help you with every other one down the track.

It’s ok to have multiple purposes but remember to consider the work involved and how these spaces will coexist. For example, entertainment and dining go hand in hand, however if you have children that want to play in the yard, think about how this will take place. This brings us to the next point:

Who will be in the yard?

Once you have an idea of the purpose of your yard, think about who will be using it. Adults and children will enjoy different aspects of a yard and so this may impact your landscaping decisions. Pets will also impact your design as you will want to ensure your yard is safe and secure for any furry friends.

Once you consider what you want to use your backyard for, and who will be using it, you can get a better idea of what areas you will create and where they will be situated.

The clear out

The easiest way to design a space that is truly yours is to wipe it clean and start with a clean slate. The extent of this will depend on the size of your yard and how much junk there is for you to take out.

You may have rubbish, old tools and gardening equipment that has been neglected, or maybe you just face an overgrown garden-turned-jungle. You may want to wipe everything out, but first consider if your yard has any interesting features that are worth keeping. This could be a large rock, or an old tree, consider how you can work these things into your new yard. f need be you could also use a tree removal service in case you need one.

Once you know what’s staying and what’s going, it’s time to deal with the rubbish. 1300Rubbish give 6 easy steps for cleaning your garden, explaining that a rubbish removal service is the most effective way for you to deal with any waste whether its green or general house waste.

Clearing out a garden can be a lot of work, especially if there are a lot of grown plants. Why not get the whole family involved and use the opportunity to teach your children about working and the value of money? Westpac has some great tips for getting kids into the savings habit.

Add Some Furniture

If you’re looking to add some extra flair to your backyard, consider adding some summer and winter rattan furniture. Furniture can really help transform an outdoor space into an extension of your home. There are all sorts of different types of furniture that you can add to your backyard, so it’s essential to choose the right pieces. A patio set is a great way to add some comfort to your backyard. A nice, big patio set can provide a place for you and your friends to relax and chat. It can also act as an extra dining area on those warm summer nights.

Freshening up the garden

Now that you have some space to work with, you can add the features that are going to make your backyard truly yours. The extent of work, costs and challenges will be dependent on what you want and the size of your yard.

For example, if you want a backyard for entertainment, you might consider adding a swimming pool. This is obviously going to cost a lot more than say, if you were a budding gardener who was looking to add a garden shed, which can be relatively simple but effective with things like an EasyShed.

With some consideration and planning, the things you add can be useful for your backyard needs, while also adding value to your home.

When it comes to plants, consider things like the climate of your backyard, how much sun and shade there is and what you want your garden to look like. Different plants have different grow sizes and different maintenance needs, all of which you should consider.

Your backyard should be a space you can enjoy year round. With some planning you can create a yard that you will love, your friends will enjoy and one that will be the envy of your neighbours!.
