£2.6 million to help Hong Kongers settle in the UK

Hong Kongers coming to the United Kingdom on a bespoke immigration route will be helped to settle successfully into life here through community projects being awarded over £2.6 million of government funding today (10 February 2022).” source gov.uk

A positive incentive for those from Hong Kong (and their families) to take up their option for British National status (overseas) has been given further government backing with 47 national and regional projects underway to give the scheme full support. Under the new UK immigration route, which was initiated last year, Hong Kongers can look forward to funding for educational resources, access to mental health services and also for employment / self employment.

Minister of State, Lord Greenhalgh is quoted as saying:

Global Britain has stood up and been counted as we warmly welcomed tens of thousands of people from Hong Kong.

Our new neighbours are already playing a key role in our society, greatly enriching our nation, and I’m delighted that community-led organisations will be leading the way in ensuring they continue to build a happy and healthy life here.

The government supporting legal immigration is always positive and further highlights the current negative issue with illegal immigration not working from the much reported horror stories across the English channel from France. Immigration surely should be provided with full support to include income, health and accommodation. The Home Office says it has taken significant steps to tackle the problem of illegal immigration.
