Some people are under the illusion that renting out property is an easy “get rich quick” scheme that requires little to no work. Sadly, we’re here to inform you that this isn’t the case. Becoming a landlord requires time, patience, and dedication. You have to remember you’re dealing with people’s lives, and things can go wrong within your property at any time which your tenant may need your assistance with. You have to be agile and willing to put in the work to become a successful landlord in 2022.

If you like the sound of financial benefits of letting your property, but you simply don’t have the time to manage any tenants yourself, there is a silver lining. You could hire a professional estate agent to do the work for you. They’ll act as a middle man and the main point of contact between you and your tenant, providing everything from admin support to in-house maintenance solutions.

Know your responsibilities

Familiarise yourself with the responsibilities of a landlord before diving straight in. This will give you a realistic idea of exactly what will be expected of you. From dealing with repair work to managing a difficult tenant – and everything in between. There are also official landlord laws and regulations you may need to research and become accustomed to beforehand.
