Interior Design Ideas for Small Living Room

Small spaces at home call for as much as enough decor and planning as big spaces. One of the key goals to making a small living room more lively and livable is to make it seem bigger, where you can turn it from a bleak room to a lovely sitting area.

Interior design is just what you need to achieve this, check out some of these smashing ideas to make your small living room better than what it was before.

1. Mirrors

Mirrors will help your small sitting area feel bigger, thanks to the reflections of the area. But make sure to place them strategically, place the mirrors in areas where light can bounce off of, giving not just an illusion that the space is bigger, but brighter as well.

2. Less is more

Having a small room will give you the urge to maximize the space by filling it up with furniture. This shouldn’t always be the case, having less furniture can already fill up the area and give it life. Make sure to use furniture that is light on the eyes, stray away from chunk sofas, and large hardwood tables, go for sofas or chairs with thin legs, and tables or surfaces made from lighter material

3. Multipurpose furniture

The space is already small, to further maximize it use furniture that can have multiple purposes. For instance, have an ottoman that can both work as your coffee table and seating, or have large pillows that can be decor and more seating.

4. Maximize your walls and ceilings

Most interior designer in Essex utilizes all the walls and ceilings of the area, making sure that space is used not just in function but in design. You can use recessed lighting if you’re ceilings are high enough, have the sofa or the main seating built into the walls like a bay window.

5. Lighting is Key

Lighting is key in interior design, utilize the space by bringing in windows that can stream in more light, or use interior lighting than can be simply attached to the wall. Lighting can really open up a space so don’t be afraid to experiment with this aside from the furniture.

If you want to add indoor plants then combine them with LED grow lights which will help the plants grow and add a beautiful touch to your interior design.

6. Rugs for days

Rugs are a great way to give an illusion that the space is big, if you can utilize multiple rugs to give a sense of sectioning in the small living area, you can have a rug that is for the TV area, another rug for the reading, or sitting area. If your space can’t accommodate multiple rugs, one big rug can help in giving an illusion that the space is big enough, giving the area its own sectional flooring different from your actual flooring.

7. Acrylic Furniture

Timely for the trend, acrylic furniture is not just for its edgy and futuristic clear looks, it can also be a bang for your buck if the space you are decorating is small. Acrylic furniture will give the illusion that it’s not even there, further freeing up more space and making your small living room breathe more.
