Why estate agents need a Google Plus account for SEO

What’s the homepage set to on your browser? BBC News or Sport? EstateAgentNetworking.com!? 🙂 It probably comes as no surprise that for the vast majority of us, it’s good old Google.

It’s well-known in the industry these days Google uses Social Media as part of it’s magical and mysterious ranking algorithm to work out who is most ‘relevant’ to the masses. After all, it makes sense that the more popular and “talked about” something is, the more ‘of relevance’ it is likely to be and should therefore be higher up the rankings.

Most of us have Facebook and Twitter by a general-rule-of-thumb, but often overlook Google’s somewhat failed attempt at taking on the social media scene – and because of this, quite rightly so… but are we missing something here?

Whilst it’s not the most popular option, and most certainly shouldn’t be the only social media tool we use, Google+ is heavily integrated within Google’s ranking algorithm. It can draw the most information straight from it’s own pool of analytics, and it would make sense if they were to trust and rate these results higher than that of Twitter and Facebook – which makes it vital that we exploit this opportunity.

Remember, Google+ isn’t just Google+… it’s all tied in with your Google Account, which means YouTube, Blogger, Google Maps and Reviews (basically any Google Products) and when you’re logged in – even your Google searches themselves!! Ever noticed how it customises your search based on your location? Over time it will do that based on your history and interests.

If you already use G+ and have a few friends and companies in your various circles, if you “+1” a website this actually directly affects your peers search results and eventually everyone elses too.

The bottom line? Get yourself on Google+, build up a fair following, fill out your profile in full and at the least – continue to keep it in the back of your mind. It’s a quiet giant, but your time invested will be returned in full.
