Interior Design in 2025: Bold Colours are Making a Comeback

The days of sterile whites and boring beige walls are long gone. Homeowners are now starting to embrace bold colours more than ever, a trend that we can expect to see going into 2025. The move away from neutral tones indicates that homeowners are trying to be more expressive, and that they are also trying to create a strong sense of energy and joy.

Vibrant Colours are Back In

Vibrant colours, gold accents, and bright reds are one of the best ways for you to add a touch of drama to a space. Don’t make the mistake of taking inspiration just from other homes here. These coordinate very well with each other, and when you balance it out with some interesting geometric shapes, it’s easy to see how this can create a striking aesthetic. Tetris is another example of how bold colours and tones can be used to create an exciting colour aesthetic. From calming blues to deep ocean tones, it’s easy to create a variety of moods by simply looking at what looks good across a range of different formats. Following top interior designers, like Kelly Wearstler will also help you to dial-in that maximalism trend, if you want further ideas.

Earthy Tones are Still Important

If you want a more neutral palette, then earthy tones are the way to go. Shades of khaki, brown, or beige are ideal if you want to provoke a sense of relaxation and they are most suited to the living room. Beige has a tendency to go with other warmer colours very well, including red. You can also use furniture to set the tone of a room, using natural wood with bright gold hardware to add a lot of visual interest. Brass or black door knobs can add drama and they can also invoke a sense of luxury. Metallic finishes that are in for 2024 and 2025 include bronze, pewter and copper. Metals like this tend to complement earthy tones and help to add a touch of warmth overall.

Even though red, gold and black are all top colours moving into next year, you mustn’t forget about greens and pinks. The natural aesthetic trend of 2024 is still alive and kicking, with people looking for more ways than ever to bring the outside in. Forest-themed bathrooms, like the ones here from Atlas Ceramics, are also still trending, so don’t be afraid to be bold here. Although calmer colours do tend to suit bathrooms well, bold and bright colours help to add a playful energy that right now, people seem to love.  If you want to find out what colours go best together, then creating a mood board is often the way to go here. Mood boards can show you what colours go together, and they give you the chance to plan your interior design from start to finish, so you can make quality investments that pay off for years to come.
