NHF comes up with new plan for RTB
A follow on to yesterday’s “Breaking News” Item where we mentioned Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron telling his party faithfulls at their conference that he is totally opposed to the right to buy scheme being extended, and that he would do everthing he can to stop the government from implementing it, well it may not be that easy.
The government may not have to legislate to extend right to buy to 1.3 million more tenants, after housing associations put forward their own voluntary proposals, that is after they were initially opposed to the scheme, their proposal would avoid having to sell the homes by law
In a statement by The National Housing Federation (NHF) they reportedly said, “Crucially, as the associations would not be compelled to sell stock under legislation, but entering an arrangement voluntarily with Government, the independence of the sector would be maintained,” in the (NHF) plan the discount would be fully funded by the government and every property sold replaced with another housing association home.
