Two out of three for ‘Shelter’
Following the Fix Renting Campaign launched in January by the Housing Charity Shelter, which focused on 3 ways to make renting safer, they have now announced that thanks to the work of Shelter and their amazing supporters, the first two of them should now become law, along with strong measures tackling rogue landlords!
Changes to the law in the Housing and Planning Bill will mean that soon landlords will be legally responsible for doing electrical safety checks and letting agents made to better protect renters’ money.
The third change which would mean all rented homes to be genuinely ‘fit for human habitation’ still needs to be worked on shelter say in their blog, the law that requires rented homes to be fit for human habitation cannot be used by renters to challenge their landlords anymore, just last week the government rejected an amendment that would bring it back to life.
Shelter are cautious to say they are hesitant to celebrate yet as the Housing and Planning Bill still needs to pass through parliament.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services
