How did Social Media do in 2015 & Why you should Take Note:

We know the importance of the internet and all the add-ons that it offers our businesses, but just how fast is online digital marketing growing? Does it hold the power to make a difference to our businesses and are we missing out on growing our brand by not only not using it, but more importantly, not using it well enough?

Year-on-year growth in Digital Marketing remains strong, particularly in the use of mobile social media:

  • Internet user growth: +7.6%
  • Social media user growth: +8.7%
  • Mobile user growth: +3.4%
  • Mobile social media user growth: +23.3%

(Facts from wearesocial)

It is said that around about half of the world’s population is now ‘online’ with social media users now being at approximate 30% of all of us… This shows us that social media still has a long way to grow still if 3.5 billion of us are already online in some way or another (Facebook only, ‘only I say!‘, has 1.5 billion users and adding approximately half a million new users every day).

I watched a recent television programme that highlighted David Beckham’s attempt at playing a football game across seven continents in seven days and even the remote Asian and African locations, which I assumed would not be advanced as they were, still all had their mobile phones and taking photos no doubted for online sharing purposes. Many developing markets across the world will be adding to the figures above meaning more than ever that our presence online for business is of uptmost importance.

OK, most of us will not be running a business that is looking at international awareness, not even national, but to even attract a local audience we need to stand out as the growing numbers of businesses joining the internet and social media mean we have more competition to stay ahead of.

Mobile figures have also been impressive to include that over half the world’s population owns at least one device and that two million smart phones are sold across the world each day. 12 new active social media users are being added each and every second meaning  that an extra audience of 1 million is out there for you to target each day.
Everything above tells us that digital marketing, social media and mobile usage is growing and this will mean that it is more important then every to have a good marketing plan to make sure you get seen online. Social media tips from the experts need to be listened to, latest tools from software providers need to be adopted and even when it comes to our agency window displays, innovation is now the word if you want to stand out!
