Three tips in hiring the best staff

What should one be looking for when hiring staff? What are the processes needed to ensure you appoint the right person for your team?
We all want to hire the best staff but it can be challenging.
So how do you recognise who is the best candidate for your company?
Hiring the best staff is an art. It takes time and wisdom as you seek to determine who could be the best candidate to fill a function or role you have available.

Therefore, consideration must be given to the type of questions needing to be asked.

  • What questions should you ask?
  • What should you be looking for?
  • What are your best practices for the interview process?

Having interviewed many candidates over 30 years, I’ve seen some come fully prepared for an interview, while others look as though they just got out of bed.

Here are 3 insights to help find the best candidate for your team.

  • Hire the good attitude

Attitude will determine how far someone will go in your organization. A good attitude is courageous. It displays a positive, can-do approach. It will be easier to work with someone with a good attitude than one with a poor one.

Someone with a poor attitude can often project a sense of “the world owes me”approach while someone with a good attitude projects “what can I bring to the world.”

  • Skill

It is far easier to develop skills in someone with a good attitude. They are teachable, want to learn. A good leader will look to develop the skills in each of their team.

It is important never to despise a small acorn when it comes to skills; rather, see it grow and enjoy the produce, that productivity that a developed skill can bring to your team.

  •  Character

A member of staff with a good attitude, able to learn and with skills that can be developed will have huge positive effect on your team, productivity, and profitability. Character is often described as what are we like when no one is watching.

Good character will ensure you have someone working not just for you but with you, honest with you, the customer, and themselves. They will not be compromised.
