Which Euro 2016 Team is Your Agency Most Like?

So we’ve had a look at all of the teams competing in Euro 2016.

Let’s put to one side the activities of an absolutely mindless minority of thugs (from many nations) who seem to think this is a festival of flying chairs and let’s focus on the football.

I’ve watched almost every game bar two or three (life’s too short to watch Hungary versus Austria) and it’s got me thinking about which teams reflect different estate agencies.

I’ve picked out a few teams that struck a chord with me.

Is your outfit like Germany? Well drilled, solid, a track record of success but possibly missing that little extra special something at the moment. (I only work with independents and the Germans, well they feel a bit corporate to me.)

Are you like the Irish team? Full of passion for what you are trying to achieve, hard working and fighting against bigger, more fashionable rivals (check out their group to see what I mean).

Or do you see a little bit of England within your agency? Talented youngsters but lacking big game experience and a real top notch manager. (Roy Hodgson couldn’t motivate me to make a cup of tea let alone run through a wall for him.)

Then there’s France. The local force, lots of flair going forward but with a defence which looks inconsistent at present. The agency equivalent being a company with some great marketing and PR ideas but only getting them out sporadically with no structure.

Or is there a bit of Iceland within your office (and I’m not talking about the £1 Doner Kebab Pizza in the freezer). Small (population of just 330,000 roughly the size of Coventry’s) but well drilled, disciplined and not afraid to invest in their success (they pumped money into coaching and indoor facilities and it’s paying off big style).

Finally my favourite team so far, Croatia. Again a smaller act among bigger outfits but for me they have a little bit of everything. Organisation, teamwork, passion and a belief in their playing system. I think they’ll go far.

The team which wins will be the best TEAM. Only once in the past 40 years could you point to a big tournament winner and say ‘they only won it because they had him’ and that’d be Argentina in 1986 when Maradona was unplayable and at his peak.

From an agency and PR point of view the team isn’t just your office staff.

It’s your PR person, your designer and copy writer. Too many agencies try to do all of this in-house and for me it let’s their side down and erodes their chances of success.

A little investment in the right areas usually pays off if it’s accompanied by a solid plan.

Anyway enjoy the football and here’s to your next instruction.

Jerry
