STOP, THINK, LISTEN

It’s that time of year again “THE SUMMER” with all that goes with it. Strawberries, Pimms, tennis, trips to the beach, to mention just a few and those important Summer Holidays ( oh and this year the EURO FOOTBALL!).

                        PLUS SUMMER MADNESS!!

What do I mean by that? Well as a Spanish Property Agent, we know for some it’s “LEAVE YOUR COMMON SENSE AT THE AIRPORT SEASON”

Even we as a family have suffered from a mild attack of it. On the way to the airport in Menorca after three wonderful weeks holiday ( Julio Iglesias on the coach radio!!) we were plotting how we could live there permanently. Fortunately it didn’t last long, we got home and faced up to the reality of “normal” life. Son at the Cathedral School, wife teaching at the local school and me advising people how and how not to buy a property in Spain, then selling them the right property. Yet for some people theirs has been a bad attack. A question of buying a property while away then repenting at leisure.

Ask yourself these questions if you were buying a house in the UK. Would you jump in and buy without looking at the implications of what you were buying, without looking at the paperwork, without legal advice or even knowing the area? If the answer is YES, you are obviously one of those non-worrying types who like adventure!! If the answer is NO then hopefully you will not do anything rash before you have looked into your purchase further.

Yes, there may only be one house left in that development, but equally there are many similar ones which would suit just as well. So no need to rush the buying process until you feel comfortable and not under pressure. Yes, you don’t want to miss out on “a good deal” but are you sure it is that? There is no shortage at the moment of good quality property at very good prices if you know where to look. Be aware that not all “special prices” are that!!

CAVEAT EMPTOR——– LET THE BUYER BEWARE

D.I.Y buying can be the answer for some people. Buying privately can mean you are happy with your property purchase but remember always get legal advice from an Abogado/Abogada who is an expert in Spanish Property Laws before you part with your money.

NO, buying in Spain is not scary if you have good independent advice to back up your purchase which is free as it is
not you who pays the agent’s commission but the seller
