Summer Garden Edit

The trend for bold colour in interior and garden furniture continues this season, with colour ‘pops’ being the way forward.   Previously I was an advocate more neutral shades, but I have to say i’m now a complete colour convert.   There are so many inspiring  and reasonably priced accessories on the market i’ve had to indulge.

I feel that adding colour to your home during the summer months is essential, especially in London where the weather can be dull and grey (except this week!) and when a slice of lime,  peridot or malachite green can transform a patio garden.  These new colours are easy to use as they grown up and sophisticated, not primary.

When adding your bright ‘pop’ consider the background in order to complete the composition, either using contrasting colour, solid dark or light works best. Layering the scene.    Too many clashing colours will cause an unsettling riot.

Continuing the colourful theme there are some fantastic prints around, featuring bold botanical designs, these are perfect when you want to make a quick tranformation without being too bold.  Be restrained and add in your ‘pop’ with cushions or go all out and add bright seating or a garden rug.

When buying garden furniture consider that it is going to live outside most of year under British weather conditions, so you may not want to splash out too heavily.   Supermarket chains and on-line suppliers have the answer, this year most of the big stores are carrying a huge range of inexpensive cheery designs.  Look out for interesting shades and intricate patterns.
