TIPS TO SPRUCE UP YOUR PROPERTY’S GARDEN THIS SUMMER
The clouds are finally starting to be punctured by sunshine and the UK is beginning to feel a bit more like the summer season we have come to expect. The distinctive waft of BBQ’s and alfresco dining will be emitted into the air, accompanied by the cheerful rhythm of families enjoying games, signalling to the notion that the garden has turned into the place to be.

- TEND TO THE LAWN
The lawn plays a key role in a lot of UK gardens, often appearing as the centre piece. If it’s left unattended, an unhealthy and unwanted tinge will creep into the grass. Knowing the right time to mow and at the right length will keep your lawn looking pristine. If you wanted to pull out all the stops, you could use a fertilizer a couple of times a year to ensure it is kept at its luscious best. Some homeowners even use artificial lawn to minimise maintenance.
- A LICK OF PAINT
Your tired, old shed or fence that has been left neglected for a number of years can be transformed back into life with a lick of paint. A subtle gloss can make all the difference, or if you’re feeling adventurous, a brighter colour can install an increase of character for your garden.
- FLOWERS
Flowers and plants can be picked up fairly cheaply from a garden centre and help to splatter the garden with arrays of colour. The addition of coloured plants help to break up the monotony of greens and browns and make the garden a more welcoming place to be.
- LET THERE BE LIGHT
Having external artificial lighting can illuminate your seating area fantastically and showcase specific areas of your garden or landscaping. Lighting can be sourced for reasonable pricing and is often powered through solar technology. Light will also help to create a warmer ambience in your outdoor space when the sun has set.
- UPCYLE
Taking an old piece of external furniture and giving it a makeover, whether through a lick of paint or a change in usage is always a bonus for the garden. Plant pots, benches or anything else you can think of will help to add charisma to your garden space.
- TACKLE THOSE WEEDS
Although it is one of the more arduous tasks, tackling the weeds is definitely a worthwhile investment and will leave your garden with a tidier aesthetic. If you are not quite up to Alan Titchmarsh’s standards, there are apps, websites and books which all help to reveal what the weeds look like and the best way of tackling them.
- PRESSURE WASH
A patio will look as good as new after a thorough pressure wash, spraying away the accumulation of dirt and grime that has collected over the past year or two. You may not have your own washer, but multiple companies offer rental and hiring facilities.
- HIDE AWAY THE UNWANTEDS
Erecting a screen to hide away the bins or the compost heap can help to tidy up the garden and keep prying guests eyes away from the less attractive parts of your grounds. Using a creative reign, the screen could always become a decorative addition to the garden.
- CLEAR THE CLUTTER
Similar to inside, having a clutter filled space will always make the place look disorderly and jumbled. Utilising storage spaces to tidy away those unneeded items will maintain a safe area for the children to play and make the area visually tidier.
