What do you look for in a home?

Moving home is a big deal. There’s a lot to take into account before you decide to take the plunge and move on. Some people already have a dream home checklist whilst others have no idea what they want until they see it. Then, once you’ve made the decision you need to make sure you’ve booked the removal van, cleaned up your old house and, if need be, consulted conveyancing solicitors.

A recent survey carried out by Slater and Gordon revealed that 45% of Brits have moved between one and three times as an adult which got us thinking: what do you look for in a home?

Location
Location is potentially the key element that will decide your move. The town or area you want to live is in a big deal (and 35% of people surveyed agreed by putting this as their top factor!) Do you want to be close to friends and family? Maybe you need to be near a train station for the commute to work or want to make sure you’re by the good schools for the future generations. Most people start by picking a location and then narrowing down their search.

Size
The size of the house is another key element that needs to be thought about pretty early on after all there’s no point buying a one bedroom flat if you’re a family of five! From the amount of bedrooms to the size of the kitchen, size is key to making sure the home is right for you!

Aesthetics
For some people the aesthetics are key. How the home is already decorated can be a big factor for potential buyers however others are up for the challenge and are willing to buy a home that they can really make their own. If you don’t want to do any work to the home you buy then it might be worth remembering that finding one already decorated to your exact preferences may be tricky!

There’s a lot to take into account when you start house-hunting, what do you look for in your dream home?
