Concerns about the Home Report for Scottish sellers according to research from HomeReportScotland

The biggest concern about the Home Report for Scottish sellers is the potential for their property to be undervalued, according to recent research from HomeReportScotland, a new site offering instant Home Report quotes.

19% of Scottish sellers were worried about the Home Report causing them to lose a sale (rising to 38% of young people aged 16-24)

12% of respondents were most concerned about receiving a Category 3 rating

16% of home sellers had no concerns at all about the Home Report process (rising to 27% of over 55s)

Nearly 30% of sellers in Scotland cited the potential for their property to be undervalued as their biggest concern. Similarly, 19% of home sellers were worried about the Home Report causing them to lose a sale (rising to 38% of young people aged 16-24), and 12% were most concerned about receiving a Category 3 rating, denoting urgent repairs or replacements needed in the property. Despite this, 16% of home sellers said they had no concerns at all about the Home Report process (rising to 27% of over 55s).

The results are part of HomeReportScotland’s new research among more than 500 respondents, providing insights into Scottish home sellers’ perceptions of the Home Report. Powered by Harvey Donaldson & Gibson, the leading residential surveying firm, HomeReportScotland enables home sellers to get an instant quote online for their Home Report.

Jim Gibson, Managing Director at Harvey Donaldson & Gibson, commented:

“Our research shows that a significant minority of the sellers have misunderstood the point of Home Reports and their value to people buying and selling homes. For buyers, the advantages are obvious in that you get one report which shows you the condition of the property. And if you’re selling your house, the Home Report is a good opportunity to showcase the selling points of your home, and ensure that buyers won’t be dissuaded by unforeseen problems that arise during the sale process.

“The whole idea behind HomeReportScotland is to make it as affordable and straightforward as possible for people to get the information they need if they are thinking about selling their house. If you’ve maintained the property and kept it in good condition then the report will reflect this and give assurances to people thinking of putting in an offer. It could also show things that, with a little work, could add value to your property, too.”
