How long should my Sold Estate Agency sign stay up for?
So great news, you have sold your property and that for sale sign has now got a sold SSTC message across it – Job done and happy estate agency and home owner. Now, it is something that is not dealt with in too much depth online, but I am seeing more and more sold signs that are remaining up for months (usually online estate agency boards).
Now, is the sold sign simply up when an offer has been accepted so it could be months of a busy and slow chain to get through before the sign is taken down or does it quite literally mean that the property is sold and the transfer of monies has been done? Yes, the STTC (sold subject to contract)
Under offer is really an advertising term used by an agent rather than a legal term. Technically, a English or Welsh agent (different rules apply in Scotland), can only describe a property as ‘for sale’, ‘sold subject to contract’, ‘exchanged’ or ‘sold’
Your ‘Sold’ estate agency sign should ideally be removed on or around the day of completion, and definitely within 14 days of the sale being agreed upon to avoid misleading the public. If the agent doesn’t remove it after you’ve requested, it’s reasonable to take it down yourself after a period of unanswered contact.
