Council welcomes Coulsdon homes decision
Croydon Council’s cabinet member for regeneration has welcomed the approval of a Coulsdon planning application that will mean more affordable homes for borough residents.
Brick by Brick, the development company set up by the council, received planning permission last night (Thursday) for five buildings providing 157 homes at the former Lion Green Road car park.
Seventy-nine of these flats will be affordable, including 33 that will transfer to Croydon Affordable Homes, the council’s charitable company set up to rent out houses and flats at 65% of the usual cost to families who had previously been in temporary accommodation. The Coulsdon scheme’s 78 private flats will finance its affordable homes.
Councillor Alison Butler, deputy leader and cabinet member for homes, regeneration and planning, said: “This is a fantastic step forward towards delivering both regeneration for Coulsdon and more affordable homes for borough residents, including families on benefits or low incomes. The council has already got 114 families into cheaper rented properties under its Croydon Affordable Homes scheme, and this decision will help even more households.”
