Top 5 Places to Buy Property On The Costa Del Sol

Spain’s Costa del Sol is renowned across the globe, and is one of the world’s most sought-after destinations. Featuring an incredible climate, an atmospheric Mediterranean lifestyle, and an abundance of glamourous resorts, it’s not really hard to see why.

The paradisal destination is super easy to get to as well, with a number of airports dotted throughout the area. Malaga airport, in particular, has grown in size and stature over the years, with more and more UK airlines now flying there at a cost-effective price.

Whether you’re into golf, relaxing on the beach, or enjoying world-class amenities, the Costa del Sol is packed with fantastic places to see and enjoy. From a property point of view, if you’ve not been there before, it can be difficult knowing which area is best-suited to you, so you can check out these properties in Marbella Spain. Fortunately, we’re here to help – here’s where we think you should be looking to buy property in.

  1. Benalmadena

The definition of a tourist hotspot, Benalmadena gains its popularity from the vast number of sights and activities it has available. From Tivoli World amusement park to a 900 square-metre ice-rink, the town also has one of the world’s best cable car rides, which transports you all the way to the top of Calamorro Mountain.

As with most places on our list, the property price will largely vary depending on the size and location of the property you’re looking for. In general, a two-bedroom apartment in Benalmadena’s main commercial district typically sells for €200,000.

  1. Marbella

Known for being Spain’s most upmarket and fashionable place to live, Marbella offers its very own microclimate and abundance of luxury hotels and restaurants. In the city you can expect to find several golf courses, a diverse range of beaches, delightful art galleries and world-class nightlife.

While the area may be associated with a more luxurious way of life, you don’t necessarily need to be a millionaire to live there. Away from the penthouses and villas of Marbella’s seafront, you can purchase a decent two-bedroom flat for approximately €200,000.

  1. Torremolinos

The perfect blend of a cosmopolitan town with a traditional Andalusian fishing village, Torremolinos is the ideal place to be if you enjoy long days relaxing on the beach. Featuring a seven-kilometre long seafront and an incredibly close proximity to Malaga airport, the seaside resort is great for non-beach lovers too, with Aqualand and Crocodile Park offering fantastic nearby alternatives.

What’s more, with a number of bars and nightclubs to choose from in Los Alamos and La Nogalera, the nightlife in Torremolinos is much more relaxed than the hustle and bustle you can expect in Malaga or Marbella. A two-bedroom flat here sells for around €200,000.

  1. Estepona

Estepona is one of the few coastal towns on the Costa del Sol to have retained its village character and charm. Featuring a 21-kilometre long coastline, the large family resort has a much more traditional Spanish feel than most other resorts and, being based less than an hour away from Malaga’s main airport, transport won’t pose much of an issue either.

If you’re looking to live somewhere which feels less touristy, living in Estepona will give you a much greater insight into the traditional Spanish way of life. It’s also the cheapest place to pick up a property on our list, with two-bedroom apartments costing somewhere between €120,000 and €180,000.

  1. Fuengirola

Only 25 minutes from Malaga airport, the coastal town of Fuengirola is the perfect place to live if you enjoy sandy beaches and a lively nightlife scene. The town has gone almost the opposite way of the aforementioned Estepona, having transformed from a small fishing village into a vibrant cosmopolitan town. It now features an abundance of chic boutiques and tapas-themed restaurants, and is the ideal place to be if you’re into water sports.

Having been built on flat land, the best places to live are in the apartment buildings overlooking the Paseo Maritimo – Fuengirola’s most popular esplanade. However, if you’re not fussed about having a sea view, you can purchase a two-bedroom unit just outside the area for as little as €150,000.

Final thoughts…

Finding your ideal place to live in the Costa del Sol can be a tricky decision. After all, there are so many fantastic places to choose between, and the decision really comes down to what exactly it is you’re looking for. Here’s a quick summary of where we think you should live, depending on your circumstances.

  • Looking for somewhere with great nightlife? Pick Marbella, Fuengirola or Benalmadena.

  • Looking for somewhere away from the more touristy areas? Think about Mijas Pueblo or Mijas Costa.

  • Looking for somewhere with a more family-friendly feel? Marbella, Torremolinos or Mijas Costa could be a good shout.

  • Looking for somewhere with more of an authentic cultural feel? Look no further than Estepona.

Wherever you choose to live, the Costa del Sol is a fantastic place to be. Just don’t forget your sun cream when you move there – you’ll definitely be needing it.
