Things to do before selling a house

Moving to a new place involves a lot of planning. You need to find a new place to live, schedule the removal, get familiar with your new neighbourhood and more. But there’s one more really important task that should be completed, and that’s selling your old house. You can try to find a buyer on your own or look for an experienced real estate agent. Either way, it’s not as easy as it may seem at first, so you should be prepared that it may take a while before you find a buyer who will be truly interested in the property. Luckily, there are many simple and cost-effective things you can do to make your home more appealing to potential buyers.

Clean every corner

The decision to buy a house is often based on emotions, that’s why it’s important to make a good impression on those who come to see it. Simple things, like dusting, can be done right before the buyers pay you a visit. But even before you schedule the first tour, you should clean the whole house. Every little detail can make a difference, so clean the windows, wash the floors, and make sure there are no stains on the carpets. Make sure that every corner is spotless. This is the only way to avoid unpleasant surprises, because you can never know what the buyers will want to look at.

Get rid of the clutter

It’s natural that over the years of living in the same house, you’ve gathered a lot of stuff. But the buyers aren’t interested in that, and they definitely don’t want to see such things. Plus, a room packed with too many things can feel cluttered and appear to be way smaller than it really is. Get rid of unnecessary things. And if you don’t want to throw them away, it’s a great moment to start packing. Whatever your destination is, Manchester or Battersea, removals are time-consuming, so the sooner you start, the easier it will be to do everything on time. And don’t forget that it’s not only the house itself that has to make a good impression, but your garden and driveway are also equally important. Make sure there are no unnecessary things lying around, it can ruin the whole look of the property.

Make it neutral

When you look for a new house, you don’t want the biggest or the most luxurious one you can find. You want the one that makes you imagine how amazing it would be to live there right from the very first moment you step through the door. Keep that in mind when you prepare your house for the first viewing. You should remove all personal objects. It’ll be difficult for others to imagine it’s their home when they see pictures of your family there. So get rid of everything that isn’t necessary to give the buyers a better view of the property.

Fix and repair

You don’t have to renovate the whole house but you should, at the very least, fix the small things that need repairing. A dripping tap or a loose door handle will only take a few minutes to repair, so it’s better to take care of such issues before you invite the buyers in. You don’t want all the hard work you’ve put into cleaning the house to go to waste just because of an uneven pathway or loose railing. So look through all the rooms to find things that need more attention.

The most difficult task when selling a house is finding people who will want to buy it. Try to put yourself in their shoes. What are the things you would be interested in? What would you look for, and what would put you off the idea of investing your own money? If you think about it that way, it’ll become a lot easier to find the elements you need to focus on more.
