Tips for Selling Your Property When You Have Pets

It’s sad, but sometimes having pets in your home can make it harder to sell. You might love your little bundles of fur, but not everyone is so keen on them, and many will think twice about buying a property that animals have lived in.

If you have pets, you should not, however, let this worry you too much because there are lots of things you can do to maximise your home’s sale potential even if you do have pets around…

Find somewhere else for your pet to stay

If it is possible to do so, having your pet stay with a trusted friend or family member during the sales process is a good way of ensuring that your pets do not bother potential buyers, sn that potential buyers r not bothered by your pets. However, we know this is often a lot easier said than done, and you may not want to be away from your pets for extended periods of time so be sure to put and your pets’ wellbeing first.

Relocate pets when you have a viewing

Alternatively, is there someone who would be happy to look after your pet during times when you have a viewing/ if so this could be a good way to keep them out of the way, while not having to be apart from them for too long.

Repair the damage

Pets can do a lot of damage in the home, often inadvertently. It’s always better to prevent instances of damage by training pets or choosing the best floor tiles for heavy traffic & pets, for example, but if the damage has already been done, it’s a really good idea to make any repairs that make it obvious a pet has been in residence before you start showing your home.

Deep clean

Unfortunately, pets have their own distinctive odours, which you may or may not detect as someone who is around them all the time, but you can be sure anyone viewing your home will notice that doggy smell or the smell produced by the cat litter. That’s why it’s always a good idea to do a deep clean of your home, paying particular attention to carpet and soft furnishings which can cling on to pet odours before you start showing people around.

Ensure the garden is clean and clear

It’s also a good idea to do a little gardening before you put the house on show. Pets will often do their business in the garden, and there are few things more offputting for most people than a big pile of you-know-what greeting you when you turn up to look at a new property!

As well as removing any mess, fill in any holes your pet has created and hide all of their toys away in the shed or storage until the viewing sare over and done with

Having pets may make selling your property a little more difficult, but with these top tips, you can get the best sale for your home.
