Best northern coastal property locations in the UK

Fancy a life by the sea? With hundreds of miles of beautiful coastline, the north offers tranquillity and calm away from the busy cities. Enjoy a slower pace of life but brace yourself for some cold weather; the northern coastline isn’t known for its endless sun! What it does have, though, is natural beauty that you won’t be able to get enough of.

There are plenty of stunning locations to choose from. Whether you want to enjoy the north of England from the comfort of Tynemouth or are brave enough to take on the icy winds of Inverness, here are just some of the best northern coastal property locations in the UK.

Tynemouth

A nice and easy ride with the Metro from central Newcastle, Tynemouth is a popular seaside escape for Geordies and visitors alike. It’s where the River Tyne begins and where some of the best fish and chips can be found in Newcastle – nay, northern England. Make sure to set up shop at Riley’s Fish Shack; it’s bound to become your Friday treat.

And there’s no shortage of beaches to explore. From East Beach to Ryhope South Beach and Whitley Bay, this is a haven for outdoor lovers and dog owners.

Withernsea

Located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, you’ll find Withernsea very close to Hull. Often overlooked for its glitzier neighbours of Filey and Whitby, Withernsea offers visitors the chance to enjoy untouched beaches all for themselves, making for an incredible destination to enjoy an endless, uninterrupted walk along the sea.

With a new-build home in Withernsea, you could enjoy this quiet corner of the country all year round and take your time to explore the historic castles and multitude of walks that go up into the grassy landscapes around the coastline.

Inverness

One of eight cities that is part of the Scottish Highlands, Inverness was only officially named a city in 2000, which goes to show how small and cosy it is. Here, you can expect to really have ample space for yourself and enjoy the quiet life in the far north of Scotland.

It’s also the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands. The 19th century Inverness Cathedral is a sight to behold whilst the old town is scattered with Victorian buildings, markets and churches. The city’s galleries also shine the spotlight on Highland art and culture.

Sandhaven

Another gem near Newcastle, Sandhaven can be found in South Shields. Awarded ‘Beach of the Year’ by The Times, you can do everything from spotting dolphins to scrambling on Marsden Roc and discovering the famous pub, Grotto. Legends say it’s still haunted by the ghost of Jack the Jibber!
