New research conducted by price comparison site WhatPrice.co.uk used Google Keyword Planner to analyse average monthly search volumes for 198 home renovation-related terms in the UK to identify the top ten renovation projects Britons are planning for.
Kitchens, the heart of many homes, serving as both a cooking space and a gathering area for families and friends, are Brits’ main priority this spring, with an average of 19,926 average monthly searches related to improving the room.
A renovated kitchen can enhance functionality and improve energy efficiency, while also significantly increasing a property’s value, making it a wise investment for those looking to sell in the future.

General renovations can improve the overall aesthetics and functionality of a home, making living spaces more enjoyable and potentially increasing property value. Because it usually involves many changes, starting a complete renovation in spring will help you get it over with before temperatures start dropping again.
Loft and attic renovations are fourth on the list, with 10,965 average monthly searches. Converting these underutilised spaces can add significant living area to a home without the need for an extension, such as additional bedrooms, home offices, or relaxation areas. Additionally, a well-executed loft conversion not only provides extra space but can also add considerable value to a property.
Bedroom makeovers totalled 6,398 average monthly searches, placing them fifth in popularity. Spring’s arrival inspires many to declutter, reorganise, and redesign their sleeping spaces, with renovations that may include repainting, updating furniture, improving storage solutions, or incorporating new lighting.
While these improvements can make your private space chaotic for a while, they can contribute to better sleep quality and overall well-being.
Extensions received 5,174 average monthly searches, highlighting a desire among homeowners to increase their living space. Adding an extension can accommodate a growing family, create open-plan living areas, or provide space for a home office, a cost-effective alternative to moving house. Spring offers favourable weather conditions for construction projects, making it a suitable time to begin building works.
With 4,718 average monthly searches, interior elements rank seventh. This category includes aspects like ‘window replacement’ and ‘carpet installation’. Fresh paint, new flooring, or modern fixtures can dramatically transform a living space with relatively minimal disruption compared to larger renovations.
Garage renovations recorded 4,536 average monthly searches. This suggests homeowners may be looking to repurpose their garages into functional spaces, such as home gyms, workshops, or additional living areas. Converting a garage can maximise the utility of existing square footage and potentially increase a home’s value, and spring’s mild temperatures make it an ideal time to tackle these projects.
Living room makeovers received 3,886 average monthly searches, reflecting a desire to refresh communal spaces. As the living room is often the central hub of a home, where families gather and entertain guests, improvements can enhance comfort and functionality, making the space more welcoming and enjoyable.
Conservatories and sunrooms round out the top ten, with 2,609 average monthly searches. These spaces allow homeowners to enjoy natural light and connect with the outdoors while remaining sheltered, and renovating or adding a conservatory can provide additional living space and enhance the home’s connection to the garden. Spring is an optimal time to work on these projects, with the goal of enjoying the refreshed space throughout the sunnier months ahead.
