New Build Home Enquiries Double in Summer 2025

New Builds 2020

From June to August 2025, Compare My Move’s conveyancing data shows a 120% increase in new build home purchase enquiries compared to the same period in 2024.

This surge reflects not only more people looking to buy homes overall but also a higher share of buyers choosing new builds. On average, 12% of purchase enquiries in summer 2025 were for new builds, up from 8% in summer 2024.

Month  New Build Purchase Enquiries (%)
Jun-24  7.29%
Jul-24  7.94%
Aug-24  8.44%
Jun-25  12.25%
Jul-25  12.01%
Aug-25  11.54%

As well as the increase in people looking for new builds, there has been a 45.5% increase in people purchasing homes this summer, leading to a significant increase in new build home purchases. Dave Sayce, co-founder and managing director of Compare My Move, comments on the rise of purchases in 2025 and the rise in the percentage of these purchases being new builds.

“Summer of 2025 has seen a peak of people looking to purchase, and we are currently in the middle of a strong buyer’s market. Of course, we were going to see a big difference in the housing market between this summer and last summer, as political uncertainty meant that many people were reluctant to buy surrounding the election on July 4th 2024. I suspect this trend will continue through September, before slowly reducing before the quieter times in the winter.”

“One of the biggest reasons more people are buying new-build homes is that there are simply more of them on the market. In the year ending March 31st, 2025, the number of completed new homes rose by 12%, while housing starts increased by 5%. With this boost in supply, the market is shifting towards buyers. And if the government achieves its target of building 1.5 million homes by 2030, demand for new-build properties is likely to keep rising.”
