Rightmove extends conversational search experience to property listings

Rightmove is launching the next stage of its conversational search experience for home-movers, bringing the innovative new capability to its property listings.

The move is part of Rightmove’s approach to ensure that ‘However you discover, we have you covered’.

The ‘Ask Rightmove’ conversational search experience launched on its home page earlier this year, bringing a more personalised and interactive way to search for homes and locations. The functionality is now rolling out onto property listings to help buyers and renters find the most important information to them to evaluate individual properties.

Questions like “where are the closest supermarkets?” and “is there space for two cars on the driveway?” can be answered instantly, combining key details about the property with local area and property market insights.

By bringing all this information together in one place, Rightmove aims to send more informed and confident potential buyers to agents and developers. Early indicators suggest that higher-intent home-movers are choosing to use AI search on Rightmove.

‘Ask Rightmove’ has been built in collaboration with Google Cloud including Google Gemini models and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. It uses property information on Rightmove, combined with AI-powered insights into the local area via geospatial data from Google Maps.

The experience will roll out gradually to a subset of users before scaling over time. The launch is the latest step in Rightmove’s ambition to build an AI-powered digital ecosystem that reduces friction in the home-moving process while creating more value for estate agent and developer partners.

Rightmove launched an app in ChatGPT earlier this year, as well as tools such as ‘AI Keywords and ‘Style with AI’. Meanwhile, AI-powered tools such as ‘Opportunity Manager’ and ‘Rightmove Discover’ are using the technology to save agents time and find potential sellers earlier.

Tarah Lourens, Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Rightmove, said:

“Finding a property is only part of the journey for home-hunters. The next step is understanding whether it fits their unique requirements, and learning more about the surrounding area. Our latest innovation enables them to do this in their own words, ensuring they don’t miss key information provided by agents. We’re continuing to build out ‘Ask Rightmove’, experimenting and testing along the way, to ensure it provides the best experience possible for home-movers on our platform.”

Maureen Costello, Vice President, UKI and SSA, Google Cloud said: “Our collaboration with Rightmove is focused on giving listings more local depth. By utilising our Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, we are helping Rightmove integrate Gemini models with mapping data to give home-hunters a clearer, more practical picture of a property’s surroundings.”
