The importance of your social media accounts growing?

Social media is ever progressing and I am very certain that in the near future mostly new and more and more existing businesses will put greater values on the likes of their Twitter and Instagram accounts over their own website and possibly even email addresses too. I will put my hand up that of a morning, when I am reaching out for my mobile phone to see what messages have come my way, I will check social media over emails. This is because by me checking social media, ie my Twitter account, not only am I seeing who may have messaged/mentioned me, but I can also catch up on what has been happening as I am following the accounts who release the updates I am interested in.

The importance of your social media profile is definitely increasing, news from Google says that Twitter will now form part of keyword searches where results will produce tweets from accounts by way of a dedicated search box within this search engine – Rolling out in the USA initially and upon testing soon to be available to us here in the UK. SEO will soon be more down to social media than the likes of meta tags or naming images on your website etc.

I heard a few stories recently where people are actually changing their own names to coincide with their social media profile names. Makes sense? Possibly sounds a bit crazy, but for younger generations where your surname/full name is already taken, you want something that you can call your own so amending your actual birth name can help to get your life back in order… I see this kind of trend increasing (fortunately I grabbed my name both on Twitter and LinkedIn so I can rest my mind).

Whatever you do, if you have created social media accounts then I do suggest you try and update them as often as possible with relevant content, make sure all your details are up to date especially if you have moved office recently or changed contact numbers and if you have not created your social media presence yet then don’t wait too long to do so!
