Governor of Bank of England to remain until June 2019
Mark Carney the Governor of the Bank of England who was appointed to the position in July 2013 has reportedly confirmed that he will remain until June 2019, this dispells rumours that he was about to resign.
Over the past month there have been conflicting newspaper reports suggesting that Mr Carney was about to resign, he was heavily criticised over his exagerations as to how Brexit would negatively impact the economy if a decision was made to leave the EU, some thought that he should have remained impartial in that respect.
Mr Carney initially committed to five years, he will now stay in the position for six years, Chancellor Philip Hammond reportedly said he welcomed Mr Carney’s decision to stay an additional year and that his decision to stay until 2019 would help contribute to securing an orderly transition to the UK’s new relationship with Europe.
