Managing your workforce through social media

The likelihood of the majority of your workforce operating some form of social media is fairly high, but do you know exactly how high?

If your business is yet to embrace the wonders of social media, did you know that in one form or another, your business could already be represented through your workforce?

Do you even know who is representing your business through Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin or Google +? If not, it is now more worthwhile than ever before to find out and get involved.

Building your business’ brand awareness online can be even easier through your technology-savvy brand ambassadors. Whether they are interacting with potential and current customers, or simply showcasing your business as their employer, you brand is being put in front of potentially thousands of people through your employee’s network and wider network.

Having employees online means that they can surface complaints or issues raised by members of the online communities in which they participate. They can hear ideas, gather intelligence and solve problems, consequently improving customer relations, your corporate reputation and overall marketing messages.

However, you will also need to ensure that you monitor the activity of employees online when representing your business. While we all hope that our employees will act responsibly online, in reality we simply never know. Which is why it is worthwhile putting in place online policies, to ensure your staff members are aware of what is required of them including: responsible use of social media in the workplace, reasonable care taken when engaging with clients and potential clients online, and of course no vulgarity on company-represented social media pages.

You can also offer in place social media training for your staff members to not only encourage their use of responsible social networking, but also share how employees are expected to make use of social media to fit in line with company standards.

As we are well and truly in the world of digital, make sure your business and your employees are leading the way in responsible, fun and interactive social media, and witness your online reputation grow, develop and prosper.
