Mortgage approvals down on the average in May

The Money and Credit statistical release for May 2016 released yesterday by the Bank of England (BoE) stated the following re Mortage Approvals:
The number of loan approvals for house purchase was 67,042 in May, compared to the average of 70,598 over the previous six months. The number of approvals for remortgaging was 42,919, compared to the average of 41,019 over the previous six months. The number of approvals for other purposes was 12,605, in line with the average over the previous six months.
