76% of Poor Conveyancing Experiences Feature Communication Issues

Konnect You analysis finds that communication issues feature in more than three in four poor conveyancing experiences, with missing updates, slow responses and repeated chasing emerging as common frustrations.

Communication problems, including limited updates, delayed responses and repeated chasing, featured in 76% of poor home-mover conveyancing experiences analysed by Konnect You.

The findings suggest communication is a major factor in how home movers experience delays. While poor communication may not be the original cause of a hold-up, missing updates and unclear next steps can add further frustration when a transaction is already waiting on a lender, third party or another part of the property chain. Clear, regular updates can instead help buyers and sellers understand what is outstanding and when they need to act.

The data below highlights the communication issues most often associated with poor conveyancing experiences, with slow responses, repeated chasing and missing updates among the most common problems.

Issue identified  %
Any communication problem  76%
Slow responses or difficulty making contact  53%
Repeated chasing  32%
Poor or missing progress updates  29%
Unclear, inaccurate or generic communication  29%

The findings suggest poor communication may not be the original cause of a delay, but it can make an already difficult conveyancing experience worse. Slow responses, missing updates and repeated chasing can leave movers unclear on what is causing a hold-up, who needs to act and when progress is likely to resume.

Ryanne Smith, Director of Residential Property at Holden Smith, said:

“It can become a blame game, when actually, if everybody kept everybody updated, it would make much more sense why there was a delay and what was happening. Sometimes it is physically out of everybody’s hands.”

Separate analysis of Konnect You conveyancing firms highlights why some delays cannot be resolved through communication alone, with firms identifying several common reasons a case may be waiting:

  • 86% mentioned mortgage, funding, anti-money-laundering or source-of-funds checks.
  • 71% mentioned documents, onboarding or compliance evidence.
  • 71% mentioned property, title or tenure complexity.

In these situations, clear updates can help buyers and sellers understand what is holding up progress, who needs to act and what happens next.

Dave Sayce, Founder and Managing Director at Konnect You, comments:

Good communication is not about sending more messages; it is about making the next action clear. Conveyancers can set expectations and identify blockers early, while buyers and sellers can respond quickly and provide documents in full. That will not remove every legal dependency, but it can prevent avoidable delay from being added to the process.”
