Estate Agent sacks Mother-In-Law for Poor Marketing Results:

That’s certainly a dangerous thing to do, but more importantly, how/why on earth would the estate agent have ever employed their mother-in-law in the first place (if we go by the usual stories and jokes we hear about mother-in-laws)? I wonder why father-in-laws never get the bad press? Anyway, I am sure many of us have great in-law relationships and many estate agents across the UK have great mother-in-laws in their team. From wonderful mother-in-laws to the theme of this blog, ‘Titles‘. Alongside Social Media, I would place blogs in their positioning of importance when it comes to marketing online and driving quality web traffic to your website. A well written blog, catchy title and good images will get you untold readers giving you great ROI on your efforts and ultimately land you new enquiries and business.

The first thing about any blog is it’s title and whether it appeals enough to someone to click on it and read it’s content. Yes, if you are able to add an image to that preview and the image is really catchy, then that will help tremendously, but if only your blog title is visible then you need to make sure that it really hits the spot and entices someone’s interest.

When you title your blog, take a step back and evaluate whether the title will in fact get you the interest you are after – A blog title does not necessarily have to state what is in that blog and what the subject is about, it can be something totally different!? Be careful though on how extreme you make the title, it may annoy some people that if they open your blog and it simply kicks off on a subject totally different then people may not trust your content ever again and may see you as a spammer! Can you imagine seeing the title of ‘Rightmove reduce monthly fees by 80% for 2016‘ and you’ve clicked that link only to see the first sentence reading ‘Have you considered upgrading your broadband for your estate agency, we are in your area this week and offering free appraisals… etc, etc’.

So, titles are a big pull when it comes to gaining readers so think about something within the recent news or something that intrigues people, ie if you want to write something on drone aerial videos for estate agents, you may want a title such as ’10 of the weirdest things caught on camera by a drone’ which will lead readers on nicely to the theme of your blog. The reader will be expecting some entertaining content relevant to the blog title so you maybe can include in your blog how your company makes sure it abides by current laws such as not filming over neighbours land or only starts to film at a set height so that it doesn’t catch someone sat in the bath.

As mentioned above, current news is always in the limelight and sometimes trending topics, getting in with a blog on a subject that is doing the rounds saves you a lot of time trying to drum up interest. Seasons are also good to tap into and also occasions such as Valentines day, Christmas Day, Easter… Also events such as Wimbledon, FA Cup Final, Grand National, #ChampagneDay, #IndependanceDay etc, etc.

Thinking of a great title for you blog really isn’t that difficult, just let your imagination run wild a little, examples below of standard blog title and something with a twist instead:

  • Eye catching window displays for your estate agency or Estate Agent finds true love from displaying wrong photo.
  • Updating the design of your Estate Agency Boards or Estate Agent raises £5,000 to help 10 blind children see in Africa thanks to his Boards.
  • Choosing the right software for your website or Do you know that choosing the wrong software can cost you £5,000 + yearly.
  • Are you looking for a new job in Estate Agency or Why I nearly shot dead my Estate Agent boss.

There are many other clever ways that a title can be used to increase your readers to your blog, but the above should ideally highlight the basic thought process you should have when adding a title to your blog.

Lastly, think outside of the outside of the box if that makes sense! I have heard a few stories from professional bloggers that say simply things like spelling mistakes, incorrect quotes and facts can encourage engagement with readers. Imagine if you read a blog title such as ‘Online estate agents sell more house than traditional agents‘ or ‘Ian Springnett, CEO of Rightmove, says sales are up‘ you would be tempted to say something or at least, something would be bugging you to spend more time on that blog title over others as each has poor grammar, spelling mistakes and untrue facts… You may be tempted in to read that blog incase there’s something you are missing simply from a poor heading… Maybe… …
