How the right Christmas decorations can help your home sell!

Christmas.  Estate Agents will tell you it’s a selling nightmare.  Houses with oversized trees.  Cards hanging from holders pinned to the wall.  Tinsel draped around the picture frames.  Does this sound familiar?  How can a buyer possibly see your home in the best light?

I have a plan.  It’s quite a simple one really and inspired by my local garden centres.  In my eyes, we all love Christmas.  We walk around garden centres like Barton Grange with a mouth wide open.  I hear people ooooing and aaahing, carefully selecting their Xmas goodies.  This weekend I visited Bents Garden Centre.  Christmas room sets made people stop.  Shoppers were taking photo’s.  And it was then at inspiration hit me.  Lets use these idea’s to really show off your home and stop the buyers in their tracks!

Give your home festive kerb appeal
A simple door wreath can give your home instant kerb appeal.  There are all sorts of styles and colours.   You could even make your own!

Why not decorate a tree or bush in twinkling fairy lights.  The nights are getting darker earlier.   Your home would certainly stand out.  Think of the magical glow!

A seasonal hanging basket or window box would work very well.  Red berry plants add such great colour.  Think how much brighter your home would look on these dull grey days.

Dress your hallway.

If you are lucky enough to have a welcoming hallway, we have some great idea’s for you.  Your hallway may be central to your home.  Think how many times a buyer will pass it through it going from room to room!

Add a garland to your stairs.  Decorate it with some glittering baubles hanging from matching ribbon

Why not display festive candles and flowers on a console table in front of mirror.  Think of the beautiful welcoming smell!

Your Christmas Tree

Your tree doesn’t have to be big to beautiful.  Think of your room size and choose a tree to suit it.  Home with high ceilings suit tall tree’s.  The tree will emphasise the fact.  However for small spaces, I have found semi trees which can be hung from a wall!  The most important thing is that you choose a colour theme and stick to it.  Think magazine glamour rather than a collection of baubles you have amassed over the years.

Your fireplaces
Nothing beats the glow of a real fire over the festive periods.  Thoughts of roasting chestnuts are conjured up.  If you are selling a family home why not hang matching stockings full of Christmas promise or dress a mantle piece with a lit up garland and welcoming candles.  In period homes with ornamental fireplaces, I love the idea of using fairy lights operated off a battery pack.  Kids love this and they also work as night-light too!

The kitchen
Don’t neglect your kitchen.  Show it off as space to conjure up a dinner fit for a king.  Or how about as a gathering point for friends and family to enjoy a boxing day buffet?  Swap bowls of fruit for mince pies displayed on glass domed cake stands.  Pop a vanilla pod in the oven on low and allow that homely smell to waft around your house.
Do have any Christmas tips that you would love to share with us? I f so I would love to hear them.
