Industry Interview: Rajeev Nayyar from FixFlo.

What gave you the idea to start Fixflo?
Fixflo was born out of my frustrations with the repairs process as a landlord and before that as a tenant.
As a landlord I found that my tenants didn’t give me the information I needed to fix their problems.  As a tenant repairs took far too long with visits from contractors to understand the problem before sourcing the right parts.
As a property lawyer I also saw disputes which boiled down to miscommunication or “misremembering” of what was said about reported issues.
After spending about six months interviewing property managers, tenants and contractors I was struck by their shared pains of poor information flow about repairs and a lack of clear records.
Who is the team behind the brand?
As a property tech business we need a strong grounding in both sectors.  Duncan who heads our tech side was CTO of companies including Friends Reunited.  Jon who heads our sales team previously ran a property management company.
Do you embrace feedback from the industry to better your service?
We actively seek feedback for improvement from existing and potential customers.  One of the key pain points that was identified by our clients was that they were serving an increasingly diverse tenant base.  Based on that feedback we enhanced the Fixflo system so that tenants can easily and accurately report repairs in more than 40 languages with the information being delivered to their property manager in English.  This means, for example, that a tenant can report a repair in Polish, get guidance and advice such as steps they can take to help themselves or to protect the property in Polish and their property manager receives a clear repair request in English. What are your plans for the future?
In the short term we are developing functionality to help our clients to comply with the process for repair resolution as set out in the Deregulation Bill.  These changes are expected to come into force on 30 March 2015.  Longer term our vision is to be the standard way in which property repairs are reported and resolved across sectors.  We have started to grow our business in the University housing sector, are being used by a Council’s housing enforcement team and are developing a Fixflo solution for commercial properties in light of demand from existing clients that use our systems for their residential portfolios.
