Ordance survey and HMLR programme unveils its six new startups

Property inspection app Survey Shack has been selected as one of only six startups forming part of the 21st cohort of the award-winning Geovation Accelerator Programme from Ordnance Survey (OS) and HM Land Registry (HMLR). The programme nurtures founders using location, land and property data to tackle some of society’s most pressing challenges.

One of three start-ups selected for Geovation’s Proptech track, Survey Shack will benefit from six months of deep-dive conversations around customers, technology, business models, intellectual property, teams and funding readiness. The programme will accelerate the growth of the startup, which launched in October 2024 and has already seen notable success with its guided property inspections.

The inspections, carried out by buyers, sellers and agents via the Survey Shack app, combine visual cues and educational prompts developed by property surveying experts with smart technology to provide information about a home’s condition. The app’s new Genie service, available with the Survey Shack Premium package for under £100, connects the user with a professional surveyor for post-inspection clarification. The app-generated reports help users confidently assess the condition of a property at a far earlier stage in the sale process, enabling all parties to move ahead with confidence.

With new Government proposals aiming to speed up the UK’s outdated and lengthy homebuying process, Survey Shack’s inclusion in the latest Geovation cohort is ideally timed. The app’s ability to reduce sale fall throughs due to late-stage survey results is perfectly aligned with the Government’s goal of enhancing the efficiency of the property sale process.

Lynne Nicholson, Deputy Director for Data at HMLR, comments: “The start-ups selected for the Proptech track are tackling long-standing challenges in property with compassion, fresh thinking and practical innovation. From empowering leaseholders to improving visibility of property condition, these teams are helping to instil greater confidence in the property market. Their work supports HM Land Registry’s mission to enhance transparency and efficiency – and we’re proud to accelerate their journey as they bring data-driven solutions to life.”

Brett Ray, Survey Shack’s Founding Partner and CEO, comments: “We are delighted that Survey Shack has been included in the prestigious Geovation Accelerator Programme. With a mission to transform the property inspection process through expert led, data-driven insights and smart technology, we are excited to be part of the future of PropTech and the improvement of the homebuying and selling process in the UK.
