Barclays announces new Fast-Track Remortgage service, launching 7 September 2026, designed to make remortgaging to Barclays faster and more straightforward. Customers eligible for the scheme1 can receive an offer within 24 hours and complete in as little as five days, opening up more choice for homeowners who want to explore options outside of their existing provider.
For many homeowners, renewing a mortgage is about more than simply securing a new rate. It can involve weighing up a range of important decisions while navigating what is often seen as a complex and time-consuming process. As a result, many stick with their existing lender for convenience and certainty, rather than because it offers the best option for their circumstances.
Across the market, mortgage holders who switched lenders for their most recent renewal are twice as likely to report difficulties with the process than those who stayed with their existing lender (20 per cent versus 10 per cent). Moving to a new provider has also typically been slower than staying, with just 10 per cent of recent switchers reporting that they received an offer within 24 hours, compared to 33 per cent among those who stayed.
Through Fast-Track Remortgage, homeowners no longer need to choose between convenience and exploring the wider market. Eligible customers can receive an offer within 24 hours, and for those who need to move quickly, complete in as little as five days. This enables customers to act on the best deal available, which could save them money as well as time. By prioritising key stages of the remortgage journey, Fast-Track helps reduce the time and effort involved in switching to Barclays, giving customers a viable alternative to staying with an existing lender.
An enhanced customer and broker experience
Fast-Track Remortgage gives brokers the first meaningful alternative to product transfers by helping clients secure a competitive mortgage deal without lengthy and uncertain processing times.
Half (49 per cent) of those who stayed with their last lender say that a lower interest rate from a competitor might have convinced them to switch. Through Fast-Track, eligible customers will benefit from prioritised valuations and conveyancing, which means brokers can help secure a competitive deal for their clients, without compromising on convenience.
Switch simplification
Process simplification is one of the top priorities for mortgage holders, following keeping costs down. Nearly a quarter (23 per cent) say a quicker and more straightforward application process would have made them consider switching lender. A fifth (18 per cent) also would have been motivated by less paperwork or documentation. Ease and convenience are also key drivers – three in 10 mortgage holders (31 per cent) named customer service as a reason to stay, and 29 per cent cited familiarity with their existing lender.
Roland McCormack, Head of Intermediaries at Barclays, said: “We know that remortgage timescales can be frustrating and unreliable, affecting client choice and leaving product transfer as the only option for certainty. Meanwhile, complexity for customers can narrow their choices before they have fully explored the market.
“We have designed Fast-Track to accelerate the process for brokers and their clients, providing a real alternative to product transfers and a more straightforward route to remortgaging with Barclays. Brokers can now focus their efforts on supporting their clients to understand their options, without time consuming processes getting in the way.”
Rachel Geddes, Strategic Lender Relationship Director, Mortgage Advice Bureau, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done to support Barclays in bringing the Fast-Track Remortgage to market.
“Where clients have previously faced waits of several months in some cases to become remortgage ready, this new proposition means that can now happen in as little as 24 hours. That’s a genuine step change for both clients and brokers. We’re excited about the benefit this will bring, and proud to have played our part in delivering it.”
