Response by Shelter to housing shortage

Yesterday in”Breaking News” we had the House Building statistics for England,  they were released by the Department of Local Communities and Local Government, amongst all their figures appearing on the Government website it was stated  that 131,060 homes have been built over the last year, an increase of 15 per cent compared with the previous 12 months, but still only half of the 250,000 needed to address England’s housing shortage.

Shockingly, this quarter there were only 33,280 homes started, that is a 14%  decrease compared to the previous quarter.

Cambell Robb the Chief Executive of Shelter reportedly said in response to the figures, “Once again, these figures show that we’re not building anywhere near the number of homes needed each year, leaving millions of ordinary hard-working people priced out. And worryingly, despite claims by the government that progress is being made to solve our chronic housing shortage, the number of new homes started has actually decreased.”
