Article 50 to be triggered within 6 months

Theresa May opened the 4 day Tory conference in Birmingham yesterday, it presented her with the first real chance to define her premiership and to detail the key policies that will go to make up her radical agenda.

Prior to attending the conference; Theresa May said she will introduce a “Great Repeal Bill” in the next Queen’s Speech which will overturn the act that took the UK into the EU, the government will also enshrine all existing EU law into British law and anything deemed unnecessary will be abolished later. The repeal of the 1972 Act will not take effect until Article 50 is triggered. The Prime Minister has promised to make the UK “a sovereign and independent country” before an election in Germany next September.

Theresa May used her keynote speech  at day one of the Conservative Party Conference yesterday, to tell delegates that article 50 which starts the process by which the UK leaves the European Union, will be triggered within 6 months, she said “no later than the end of March next year”.
